John H. Burbank III


Chief Investment Officer


Mr. Burbank is the Founder, Managing Member and Chief Investment Officer of Passport Capital.  He oversees Passport Capital’s investment activities and serves as Lead Portfolio Manager of the Passport Global Strategies.  Under Mr. Burbank’s leadership the firm has grown from US$800,000 in assets under management at its inception to approximately US$4.4 billion as of December 31, 2015. 

Passport Capital’s flagship Global Strategy, managed by Mr. Burbank, represents over half of the firm’s assets.  Passport Global was ranked by Barron’s as the number one hedge fund in the world in 2007 as measured by three year annualized returns. Barron’s also recognized Passport Global as one of the world’s 50 best performing hedge funds in 2006 and as a Top 100 Hedge Fund in 2008 and 2009.  Absolute Return named Passport Global Fund of the Year in 2007. 

Mr. Burbank graduated from Duke University, where he earned a B.A. in English Literature, and from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he is a frequent lecturer.  Mr. Burbank is well-known and much sought after for his global investment insights.  He has been featured as a keynote speaker at a number of global investment conferences including The Value Investing Congress, The Ira Sohn Investment Research Conference and SALT.

Director of Research


Peter Supino


Portfolio Manager & Director of Research


Mr. Supino is a Portfolio Manager and Director of Research at Passport Capital.  Mr. Supino joined Passport in 2008 as an Analyst.  In 2010 he began managing a sleeve for the Global Strategy and in 2011 was promoted to Portfolio Manager.  In 2015, Peter briefly served as Sector Team Leader at Janus Capital before re-joining Passport in a new leadership role.  Today he oversees Passport’s investment process across strategies, acts as Assistant Portfolio Manager for the Long Short Strategy and manages a cross-sector sleeve for the Global Strategy.  From 2004-2008 Peter was Research Analyst & Portfolio Manager at Wallace R. Weitz & Company.  From 1998-2004 he was Portfolio Manager, Vice President for Capital Markets, and Associate for Corporate Finance at Allen & Company, LLC.

Mr. Supino graduated from Williams College where he earned a B.A. in History.

William Peets, CFA, CAIA


Chief Risk Officer, Chairman of Risk Committee


Mr. Peets is the Chief Risk Officer at Passport Capital and Chairman of the firm’s Risk Committee.  Mr. Peets joined Passport in 2014 as Risk Manager.  In 2015, he was promoted to Chief Risk Officer.  Today he also serves as Chairman of the Risk Committee and oversees the risk function for all strategies.  Mr. Peets and his team inform the portfolio construction process from an independent risk perspective as it relates to position sizing, hedging, and the alignment of macro, factor, and fundamental risk consistent with the investment view of the firm and strategy-specific mandates.  From 2006-2014 he was promoted several times from Analyst to Vice President at MSCI Inc. and served as Senior Consultant within the Alternatives Consulting Group.

Mr. Peets graduated from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo, where he earned his B.S. in Business Administration with concentrations in Accounting and Finance.  He is a CFA and CAIA Charterholder.



Zhan Onayev, CFA


Director of Quantitative Research


Mr. Onayev is the Director of Quantitative Research at Passport Capital.  Mr. Onayev joined Passport in 2011 and his research and quantitative infrastructure provides the investment team insight on factor performance, liquidity and positioning and is an integral input in managing risk, volatility and portfolio construction.  Prior to joining Passport, from 2005 to 2011 Mr. Onayev worked at State Street Global Advisors where he was promoted from Analyst to Senior Quantitative Research Analyst and Head of Enhanced Equity Research for the Advanced Research Center.  From 2004 to 2005 he was a Consultant in the Quantitative Strategies Group at World Bank.

Mr. Onayev received his Ph.D. in Finance and an MBA from George Washington University and earned a B.A. in Economics from Kazakh State University.

Sid Mitra


Portfolio Manager


Mr. Mitra is a Portfolio Manager at Passport Capital for Natural Resources.  Mr. Mitra joined Passport in 2007 as an Analyst.  In 2012, he was promoted to Basic Materials Portfolio Manager and managed a sleeve for the Global Strategy. Today, he manages the investment and research process for the mining, energy and chemicals sectors.  Prior to receiving his MBA, from 2004 to 2005 Mr. Mitra was Manager Applications Development for Cornerstone Group.  From 1997 to 2003 he held various positions in companies including Nortel Networks and Forest Laboratories.

Mr. Mitra graduated from the University of Western Ontario where he received an M.B.A. with honors and from Berea College, where he earned a B.S. in Economics and Mathematics, magna cum laude.



Steve Schuman


Sector Portfolio Manager


Mr. Schuman is a Portfolio Manager at Passport Capital specializing in chemicals and agriculture within the basic materials sector.  Mr. Schuman joined Passport in 2010 from Lafayette Research LLC, where he served as a senior chemicals research analyst.  Prior to founding Lafayette Research, Mr. Schuman worked as a senior chemicals research analyst for New Vernon Associates and Prudential Equity Group.  Before entering business school, he was a chemical engineer at The Dow Chemical Company.

Mr. Schuman graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, Haas School of Business and from The Ohio State University, where he earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.

Justin Wei


Senior Analyst


Mr. Wei is a Senior Analyst in the consumer sector at Passport Capital.  Mr. Wei joined the firm in 2010 from Berkshire Partners Stockbridge Investors where he was an Associate.  Previously he owned and operated Sprinkles (premium retail ice cream) in Beijing and served as a Business Analyst at McKinsey & Company.

Mr. Wei graduated from Harvard College where he earned a B.A. in Economics.

Jeff Landry, CFA


Sector Portfolio Manager


Mr. Landry is a Portfolio Manager whose focus is in research directed at credit and capital markets.  Prior to joining Passport in 2011, Mr. Landry was a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at Evolution Capital Management.  Previously he was an Assistant Portfolio Manager at JMP Capital Management from 2002-2009 and an Assistant Portfolio Manager at Citadel Investment Group from 1998 through 2002.  Before joining Citadel he was a Securities Analyst and Environmental Scientist at Franklin Templeton Group, Inc. and Fugro, N.V., respectively.

Mr. Landry graduated from Harvard University where he earned a B.A. in Earth and Planetary Sciences with a Geophysical Sciences Concentration.  He is a CFA Charterholder.

Suhaib Jamjoom


Senior Analyst


Mr. Jamjoom is a Senior Analyst in the emerging markets sector at Passport Capital.  Mr. Jamjoom joined the firm in 2012 after a Summer Analyst position with Passport Capital.  Previously he was an Assistant Advisor to the Board of Commissioners at (Saudi Arabia) Capital Market Authority.  Prior to that he was a Senior Analyst for Samba Capital in the Equity Capital Market Group and a Member of the Investment Committee for Jamjoom Group.

Mr. Jamjoom graduated from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania where he received an M.B.A. and from the George Washington University School of Business where he earned his B.B.A in Finance.

Walther Lovato, CFA

Mr. Lovato is a Portfolio Manager in the energy/utilities sector at Passport Capital.  Mr. Lovato joined the firm in 2001 from ValueVest Management, where he was an equity analyst.  Previously he served as a research analyst/institutional sales at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. in New York and London.

Mr. Lovato graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, Haas School of Business and from the Bocconi University, Milan, where he earned a B.A. in International Monetary Policy.

Mr. Anaparti is a Portfolio Manager in the energy/utilities sector at Passport Capital.  Mr. Anaparti joined the firm in 2005 from Pacific Steel, where he was an R&D manager.  Previously he also served as a summer associate at Agilent Technologies.

Mr. Anaparti graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, Haas School of Business, from the University of Iowa where he earned a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and from IIT in Madras where we received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.

Andrew Seligson

Mr. Seligson is a Portfolio Manager in the technology sector at Passport Capital.  Mr. Seligson joined the firm in 2002 from NEC Corporation’s Strategic Planning Group in Tokyo where he was an Analyst. 

Mr. Seligson graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, Haas School of Business and from Colgate University where he earned a B.A. in Asian Studies and Computer Science.



Seth Spalding, CFA


Sector Portfolio Manager


Mr. Spalding is a Portfolio Manager in the technology sector at Passport Capital.  Mr. Spalding joined the firm in 2003 from Goldman Sachs, where he was a Vice President.  Previously he was a Director of Research at Epoch Partners.  Earlier he worked as a Research Analyst at C.E. Unterberg Towbin and the Gartner Group.

Mr. Spalding graduated from Stanford University where he earned an A.B. in Human Biology.



Sam Ou


Sector Portfolio Manager


Mr. Ou is a Portfolio Manager in the technology sector at Passport Capital.  Mr. Ou joined the firm in 2008 as a Summer Associate.  Prior to joining Passport, Mr. Ou was a Principal Member of Technical Staff at AT&T (formerly SBC Communications).

Mr. Ou graduated from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley where he received an MBA and from the University of California at Davis where he received a Ph.D. in Computer Science.  In addition, Mr. Ou earned his B.S. in Computer Science from Peking University in Beijing, China.

Sebastien Boifort, CFA


Sector Portfolio Manager


Mr. Boifort is a Portfolio Manager at Passport Capital specializing in industrials.  Mr. Boifort joined the firm in 2007 from Lehman Brothers’ Technology Investment Banking Group, where he was most recently a Senior Associate and worked in both its Menlo Park and London offices.  Prior to that he was an Assistant Vice President in ABN AMRO’s Global Technology Banking Group and an Analyst in Credit Lyonnais’ Equity Capital Markets and Corporate Banking departments in Paris and Amsterdam. 

Mr. Boifort holds an MBA. from the University of California at Berkeley, Haas School of Business and an M.S. in Engineering from ENSAE/SupAero, France.

Geoff Karren


Sector Portfolio Manager


Mr. Karren is a Sector Portfolio Manager who works across all sectors identifying short opportunities as well as global macro-driven themes for Passport Capital.  Mr. Karren joined the firm in 2011 from Elevation Partners where he was an Executive-in-Residence.  Previously he was President and Co-Founder of All American Sports Broadcasting, Finance Director at Chaparral Resources and, prior to that, an Associate for Asian Strategic Investments Corporation.  

Mr. Karren graduated from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley where he received an MBA and from the University of California, Los Angeles where he earned his B.A. in History.

David Tillman


Head Trader


Mr. Tillman is the Head Trader at Passport Capital.  Mr. Tillman joined the firm in 2007 from CIBC, where he was a sales trader.  Previously he was a sales trader at Susquehanna Investment Group.  Prior to Susquehanna, Mr. Tillman was an options market maker on the Pacific and Philadelphia Stock Exchanges.

Mr. Tillman graduated from Pennsylvania State University where he earned a B.S. in Accounting.

John Moran


President


Mr. Moran is President at Passport Capital.  Mr. Moran joined the firm in 2008 originally serving in the role of Director of Business Operations Strategy.  In the prior 12 years, Mr. Moran started, built and sold two companies in the event rental industry, including Classic Party Rentals, the nation’s largest event rental company.  Previously, Mr. Moran served as President Directeur General of Pharmaceutical Marketing Services, Inc.’s subsidiary in Paris, France.  After college, he was President of the largest network of franchises of The Princeton Review.

Mr. Moran graduated from Harvard Business School and from Northwestern University where he earned a B.A. in Economics.



Joanne Poile, CFA, CPA (inactive)


Chief Operating Officer


Ms. Poile is Chief Operating Officer at Passport Capital.  Ms. Poile joined the firm in 2004, originally serving in the role of CFO.  She was formerly a senior investment officer and partner at Allianz Hedge Fund Partners.  Previously she was director and head of risk management at Citigroup Alternative Investment Strategies.  Before Citigroup, she was an audit manager at Coopers & Lybrand LLP.

Ms. Poile graduated with honors from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

General Counsel


Mr. Alberti is the General Counsel at Passport Capital.  Mr. Alberti joined the firm in 2008.  He was formerly chief operating officer and general counsel at Marin Capital Partners, L.P.  Previously he was a partner at Foley & Lardner and, prior to that, at Pillsbury Madison & Sutro.

Mr. Alberti graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Law where he earned a J.D. and from DePauw University where he earned a B.A. in Economics.



Liz Mahon, CPA


Chief Financial Officer


Ms. Mahon is Chief Financial Officer at Passport Capital.  Ms. Mahon joined the firm in 2005 originally serving in the role of controller.  She was formerly a manager for alternative investment services at Rothstein Kass &Co/Bisys Group Inc. and, prior to that, was a supervisor for international and domestic accounting for institutional funds at Barclays Global Investors.

Ms. Mahon graduated cum laude from the University of California Los Angeles where she earned a B.A. in Business Economics.

Chief Compliance Officer, Associate General Counsel


Ms. Kim is the Chief Compliance Officer and Associate General Counsel at Passport Capital.  Ms. Kim joined the firm in 2011.  She was formerly an Associate in the Private Funds Practice of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP (Palo Alto office) and, prior to that, an Associate in the Investment Management Group at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP (New York office).

Ms. Kim graduated from Cornell Law School where she earned a J.D., cum laude, and was an Editor of the Cornell Law Review.  She earned her B.A. in Philosophy with Distinction in All Subjects from Cornell University.

Tony Fenner-Leitao


Global Managing Director, Marketing and Investor Relations


Mr. Fenner-Leitao is the Global Managing Director, Marketing and Investor Relations at Passport Capital.  Mr. Fenner-Leitao joined the firm in 2015 from Winton Capital Management where he was Chief Executive Officer.  Previously, he served as Chief Financial officer at TIMwe and Executive Director and Vice President at Goldman Sachs.  Before joining Goldman Sachs, Mr. Fenner-Leitao held senior level positions with various investment banks in London and New York.

Mr. Fenner-Leitao graduated from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business with honors and the University of Durham where he earned a B.A. in Economics.



Greg Leograndis


Managing Director, Marketing and Investor Relations


Mr. Leograndis is a Managing Director, Marketing and Investor Relations at Passport Capital.  Mr. Leograndis joined the firm in 2010 from Leograndis Group where he was a principal.  Previously, he served as Chief Operating Officer at Sports Marketing and Entertainment.  Before joining Sports Marketing, Mr. Leograndis held senior level positions with W.R. Hambrect & Co., Volpe Brown Whelan, UBS, Robertson Stephens & Co. and Kidder Peabody & Co.

Mr. Leograndis graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles Graduate School of Management and University of California at Santa Barbara where he earned a B.A. in Business/Economics with Honors.



Jean Thouvenin


Managing Director, Marketing and investor Relations, Passport Capital Europe


Jean Thouvenin is a Managing Director, Marketing and Investor Relations at Passport Capital Europe.  Mr. Thouvenin joined the firm in 2011.  Previously he was at Millennium Global, where he was Head of Global Marketing.  Prior to that Mr. Thouvenin served as global head of business development at Pictet Asset Management (PAM) in Geneva and, prior to that, set up and managed PAM’s client relationship management effort.  Before PAM he was a partner and head of business development for Europe and the Middle East at Fischer Francis Tress & Watts in London.  Mr. Thouvenin has also held senior fixed income sales positions at Salomon Brothers in New York and London, JP Morgan in London and Nomura in Paris.

Mr. Thouvenin graduated from Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales where he earned an MBA in Finance and Strategy.

Mr. Riordan is an Associate Director-Product Specialist at Passport Capital.  Mr. Riordan joined the firm in 2015 from Barclays PLC where he was Credit Portfolio Manager and previously a Credit Trader and Analyst.

Mr. Riordan graduated from Boston College where he earned a B.S. in Management with a concentration in Economics.



Michele Clifford

Ms. Clifford is the Director of Investor Relations at Passport Capital.  Ms. Clifford joined the firm in 2004 from OTA Off the Record Research where she was Head of Operations.  Previously she was Head of Operations at the San Francisco Business Times, a business newspaper.

Ms. Clifford graduated from the University of California at Berkeley where she earned a B.A. in Art History.



Cristina Cannon, CPA


Associate Director, Investor Relations


Ms. Cannon is an Associate Director, Investor Relations at Passport Capital.  Ms. Cannon joined the firm in July 2014 from The Siegfried Group where she was a Director of Client Service.  Previously she was a Vice President in Investor Relations at Angelo, Gordon & Co. and then an Analyst in Investor Relations at Owl Creek Asset Management, both hedge funds in New York City.  Ms. Cannon was a Senior Associate prior to that with PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Alternative Investments Practice.

Ms. Cannon graduated from the University of Houston where she earned a B.B.A in Finance and Accounting.

Mr. Pangrle is an Associate Director, Investor Relations at Passport Capital.  Mr. Pangrle joined the firm in 2011 from Ernst & Young where he was an Associate in the Global Asset Management Practice.
